• "Still, burgers rule this menu. The prime Angus burger ($9) was terrific, cooked medium rare as ordered and running with juices. It arrived with crisp shoestring fries, lettuce, a slice of ripe tomato, a big pickle and a choice of an add-on, like sautéed onions or bacon. We also tried the Kobe beef burger ($14); it, too, was a cooked-to-order treat, but the Angus was juicier...The po’ boy burger was also enjoyable, gilding the Angus with a topper of crunchy popcorn shrimp, a dollop of guacamole and a ramekin of rémoulade sauce. It was surf and turf on a bun...Appetizers are unnecessary, given the large portions and the salad included in the entree price. We did find some good ones, though. The crab spring roll was crunchy and loaded with seafood. Also impressive were the airy buttermilk-dipped onion rings and the basket of three fries: shoestring, waffle and addictive sweet-potato fries dusted with cinnamon. There were a couple of strikeouts among the openers: dry chicken quesadillas and vegetable pot stickers (steamed dumplings), which sat in a half-inch of water." - Joanne Starkey, The New York Times

Not too expensive but you're getting crap on a plate.
Overall
Don't bother! Awful place. Typical for people who know nothing about good restaurants.

Food
This is the best home style Italian restaurant on Long Island. How many Ragu sauces are actually more than just marinara sauces with chop meat added? At Nick D's that sauce is lovingly simmered for hours and is a true ragu. The salad is exceptional (the Nick D's salad.) Top it off with the roast chicken and you'll be a convert like me!
Atmosphere
Rustic and classy.
Service
Excellent.
Value
The family style of this restaurant makes it very reasonable. If you have a smaller appetite you can order a smaller, less costly amount of food.
Overall
This is the best Italian restaurant on Long Island if you want simple, great food (“the steak and not the sizzle.”) I only wish they would bring back the Merrick branch.

Food
We were a party of eight people, and our waitress who introduced herself as Maria, highly recommended that we order the hot antipasto. She explained it was an assortment of some appetizers all on one platter, great for sharing to start off while we continue to look at the menu. We were starving, and it was our first time coming to Nick Diangelo.
The menu was a lot to read, so when our drinks arrived, Maria helped us with some amazing recommendations. She suggested the Family Sized portion chopped salad and a Caesar salad for the table. The Caesar was the best I've had and the chopped salad was incredible. I could have eaten just that. We ordered family style dishes that consisted of Garlic Shrimp Scampi and Veal Marsala and a delicious Frutti Di Mare that had loads of fresh seafood in it. Everything was wonderful.
Just when you thought you were finished, we were presented with the dessert menu, "where everything is homemade, including the whipped cream." Well, we only shared a couple of things because I almost busted my pants. The Brownie dessert was INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other things on the menu. Everything looked great.
Atmosphere
It bustles and can get noisy and excited sounding. The music is old style from the 40's. It's like Mob movie music, which is awesome. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. It is really nice looking. Everything is dark wood and burgundy colors and lots of wine bottles all over the place. Really cozy with candles and tablecloths. So nice.
Service
Our service was amazing. I'd recommend our waitress. She was helpful and nice, attentive and really steered us in the right direction. She was always around whenever we needed something, which was hardly ever since she knew what we needed before I could ask.
Value
I thought that for the quality of food that we got, the service and the portion size, you could not get better anywhere.
Overall
We were lucky enough to enjoy this place during the week. I hear it's a long wait on the weekends, but everyone goes back, so that says something. I can't believe I've lived here for so long and just recently discovered this place. I passed it every day for years! It's a diamond in the rough. Can't wait to go back.

Food
A consistently great place to dine. Whether it's the specialty martini's, one of their traditional pasta dishes or their mouth watering steaks, you're assured a great meal at Nick's. And if you don't, let them know and they'll make sure you do!
Atmosphere
Nick's is the Italian "Cheers". They're not going to know your name the first time there but there's a good chance that Ralph will know you next time around. Once you get inside, the look, feel and energy is like a Manhattan spot .
Service
The service is consistently good. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong!
Value
Dollar for dollar this is one of the best values on Long Island. It's not cheap, but you get value for your money. I remember once my server was concerned that I might not be enjoying my meal since it appeared that I was eating very slowly. My response, to the contray was that I was savoring every mouthful!
Overall
As you can tell I love this place. I am so glad to have it as a part of my neighborhood. Some weeks you can find my family and me there 2 or 3 times...and never ordering the same meals! Like the old commercial suggests..."Try it, you'll like it!"
